Canadian bankruptcies soared in the first 9 months of 2009, up 43% over the same period the previous year. In tough times a little more money could make a huge difference for some people. A few hundred extra dollars a month could have prevented many of the bankruptcies that occurred.
There are a number of ways to bring some extra money into the household, but I think that starting a network marketing/MLM/direct selling business from a home office is one of the best ways for a number of reasons. Have you been turned off of network marketing in the past? If you hate this kind of business model then this article is written just for you.
There are a lot of misconceptions about network marketing, and they are perpetuated by the constant development of questionable programs and over-zealous new reps who have inadequate training. The network marketing business model was designed to allow companies to get their products to market while allowing ordinary people to earn the money that would normally be spent on advertising.
This is important for people to understand because many people have the impression that network marketing or direct selling companies over-price their product just so they can pay out commissions to the field. While this may be true of some companies, it is not true of all. It's been my experience that there are over-priced products on the store shelves as well. It is up to us, as consumers, to decide which products have value for the price tag.
One of the biggest arguments people have against network marketing companies is the perception that the people at "the top" make all the money. So people who are not familiar with this business model erroneously feel that they need to "get in early" in order to make "all the money." This is true of the ILLEGAL programs. Legitimate companies that utilize this business model have an equal opportunity to earn whether you are the first person to become a representative, or the last. The compensation structure is set up so that you can earn money selling products to people who will use them, and commissions on the development of a sales team. Companies that are legitimate and legal pay their distributors for the work they do in selling, recruiting and duplicating this effort throughout the team. In other words, if you don't do something for the money, you don't get paid.
Another reason for skepticism around the network marketing model is that many people promote it as some kind of "get rich quick" scheme. The reality is that although a few people have begun a business in the industry and earned several thousand dollars in their first weeks, this is not the reality for most. However, if you consider comparing network marketing with the traditional business model, you can reasonably expect to be in profit in your first month or two with network marketing. This isn't the case with traditional businesses, most of which don't deliver profit in the first YEAR or two.
The reason for this is that most network marketing business have a very small start up costs compared to the traditional business model. Whether you start from scratch or buy a franchise, the costs are enormous compared to the network marketer costs. Generally you can get your business up and running for a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars, and it is reasonable to expect a return on that money fairly quickly if you follow your company's steps to success.
It's important to find a company that has
