Last week, in one of the most ridiculous examples of government stupidity ever, the European Food Standards Authority disallowed the claim that water prevents dehydration. It appears that government officials have thrown common sense aside in their bid to regulate every nutrient that people put in their mouths.

This is more than stupidity. This is the result of a government which aims to control every bit of food and supplement that a person could use for nourishment. While ruling that ‘water does not prevent dehydration’ seems beyond silly, it is no more ridiculous than the FDA ruling that it is illegal to describe the health benefits of cherries.
You see, back in 2005, (and continuing to today), the American Food and Drug Administration sent warning letters to a number of cherry growers and merchants of cherry products, stating that their product was an unapproved drug. It is now illegal to say things like "The same chemicals that give tart cherries their color may relieve pain better than aspirin and ibuprofen."
These criminal acts could cause your manufacturing plant to be raided, your products to be confiscated and any number of actions taken against you for such horrendous crimes.
Come on people! Why are we allowing ourselves to be ruled in this way? It has now become a situation so out of hand that bottlers of water can not claim that water prevents dehydration. Cherries do not have health benefits. Foods can not help prevent disease. This is silly. Everyone knows (or SHOULD know) that real fruits and vegetables, whole, in their unaltered state, have nutrients in them that sustain human life when consumed. That is, after all, what drugs are created from most of the time.
Eating more vegetables and fruits is known to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, to support a healthy immune function which in turn will help protect the consumer from colds and flu, infection and disease.
THERE! I said it! So sue me!
