I find it ironic that just yesterday I posted about How To Stay Healthy Even If You Don't Get The Flu Shot and today I awaken to news about a massive recall of the flu vaccine Preflucel. Louise McLean, in her story calls Baxter "The company known for its tainted avian flu vaccines…"
I did not realize that is what they were known for.
It is interesting to me that people will continue to trust big pharmaceutical companies when year after year we hear about drug recalls, flubbed clinical trials, and other travesties but if a natural product has one episode where someone thinks it may have affected them adversely, it is passed around the internet forever and no one wants to touch it! (that's a different article I guess)
300,000 flu vaccines have been recalled after causing reactions such as fatigue, headache and muscle pain. Baxter has also instructed medical professionals to not administer ANY Preflucel vaccine no matter what lot it is from until they can reassure the public.
To me, fatigue, headache and muscle pain doesn't feel like the whole story. Not that I want to look for conspiracies where there are none, however, every flu vaccine carries a risk of fatigue, headache and muscle pain. This is because most of these kinds of vaccines carry a weakened or inactive strain of the very disease we are attempting to ward off. The theory is that our immune system will develop a resistance against these viruses when exposed to them in such a way. So it stands to reason that some people will get mild flu symptoms when they get a flu shot. That isn't a reason to recall hundreds of thousands of vaccines.
Granted they have said that the vaccine is causing "more side effects" than previous batches, something still doesn't add up in my mind. In cases like these. we often never hear the real story.
